The IDF said on Sunday that it had received a report of a shooting attack in the Allenby crossing, in the area of the Jordan Valley and the Valleys Brigade.
According to Zaki Heller, an MDA spokesman reported near the event that “this is a very difficult event”. “Our paramedics are in place and are treating three victims, 50-year-old men, who are in critical condition. They are suffering from gunshot wounds – the terrorist was neutralized.”
The shooting took place in the cargo terminal at the crossing point where trucks from Jordan pass to Israel.
After CPR, MDA paramedics and an IDF medical force determined the death of the three men who were critically wounded.
An emergency medical doctor said sadly: “This is a very difficult incident, we saw 3 men lying unconscious, without a pulse and without breathing with gunshot wounds to their bodies. Together with the IDF medical force, we carried out resuscitation activities in which we unfortunately had to determine their deaths on the spot.”
After the announcement of the deaths of the wounded, the IDF Spokesperson said that following the initial report, “A short time ago a terrorist arrived via Jordan in a truck toward the Allenby crossing in the Jordan Valley and the valleys Brigade, disengaged from the truck and opened fire at the security forces at the crossing. The terrorist was killed by the security forces, a number of Israeli civilians who were injured as a result of the attack were determined to be killed.” In addition, Brigadier General Hagari noted that “IDF forces have jumped to the point and are now working to rule out suspicion of the truck’s trap in the cargo, more details below.”
The head of the Jordan Valley Regional Council, David Alhaini, said after the attack that “this is a difficult incident, with a difficult result. We know it was a Jordanian truck driver who got off the truck, pulled out a gun, finished the first cartridge and loaded a second cartridge. The result is very difficult with three people killed. We know that Jordan has an Arab population that is based in Judea and Samaria and it supports Hamas. It also encourages the heinous murder on October 7th.”
He added: “We are studying the event so that such events do not happen. The Jordanian sector is certainly the focus of Central Command’s attention and they are prepared. The Allenby crossing should be a peaceful transition, but we also knew this type of attack in the past.”
The Council responded to the attack by saying: “The terrible attack this morning continues the alarming trend of Iran’s efforts to operate the eastern border in Judea and Samaria as another fighting arena. We again call on the Israeli government to wake up and fight in Judea and Samaria as we fight in Gaza – to act with a firm hand against the population from which terrorism is growing and to deal with the neglected eastern border with Jordan.”
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir responded after the incident and said: “It was with great regret that I received the terrible news that three Israelis were murdered at the Allenby terminal by a low-ranking terrorist. I send condolences and a hug to my family and friends. The war we are fighting is not only against Gaza and Hezbollah, it is also in Judea and Samaria. Only last week did I ask the prime minister to bring victory in the war goals in Judea and Samaria, and I will continue to fight for this to happen.”
The Jordanian Interior Ministry announced the opening of an investigation following the shooting. At the same time, security forces surrounded Jericho, which is located about 5 kilometers east of the crossing, in order to locate additional terrorists or collaborators who might be in the area.
