The IDF officially announced on Thursday that the forces of the 162nd Division had overwhelmed the Hamas Rafah Brigade after intensive
fighting for three months in the Rafah area.
To date, the forces of Division 162 have killed over 2,000 terrorists and destroyed about 13 kilometers of underground tunnels. In addition, the division forces dismantled the Hamas Rafah Brigade.
Over the past few weeks, the brigade combat teams of the Nahal Brigade, Givati, 401, the IDF unit and a squadron of 13 are conducting stubborn battles in the Tel Sultan neighborhood. As part of the operation, more than 250 terrorists were killed, including the commander of the Tel Sultan battalion, Mahmoud Hamdan, and most of the battalion’s chain of command.
In addition, the forces managed to destroy about 80% of the underground features found in the area, mainly near and below the Philadelphi Route. The engineering forces of the division and the IDF unit continue to work to locate and destroy the underground and other terrorist infrastructures in the area.
In addition to fighting on the southern front, the IDF continues its offensive operations in the northern sector as well. As the IDF Spokesman reported today, an Air Force aircraft targeted by the 210th Division, attacked terrorists in the southern Syrian region of Kuntar. During the attack, Ahmed al-Jaber, a terrorist belonging to the “Golan Portfolio” unit, the branch of the Hezbollah terrorist organization in Syria, was assassinated.
It was also reported that in another attack in the Rapid area of Syria, another terrorist who worked to promote terrorist activities against Israel was attacked in cooperation with and directed by Iranian elements. In addition, earlier today, the air defense fighters intercepted a suspicious aerial target approaching Israel from Lebanese territory.
The IDF has been operating simultaneously in several sectors in the framework of the ongoing fighting since October 7. In the south, the ground forces continue their activities deep inside the Gaza Strip, where thousands of terrorists were killed and terror infrastructures and tunnels destroyed. At the same time, in the north, the IDF is carrying out targeted attacks in Syria and Lebanon in order to neutralize threats from Hezbollah and its affiliates.
