Today (Sunday), the government is expected to approve the establishment of a heritage space to commemorate the events of the 7th of October around the Gaza Strip, in a project that will be budgeted for NIS 190 million and led by the Ministry of Heritage. In the framework of the decision, the Prime Minister’s Office will be responsible for coordinating all commemorative activities in cooperation with the Rebirth Administration, while the Ministry of Heritage will develop a multi-year plan to implement the decision.
The proposal explained that “the preservation of memory, documentation and development of the heritage is essential for the rehabilitation and development of the settlements, are of great weight in the rehabilitation and recovery of Israeli society. The commemoration and memory contribute to strengthening personal, community, regional and national resilience, as well as strengthening national and international solidarity and cohesion. The memory and legacy of these events and the next war in their wake will become a moral compass, guiding the State of Israel toward a strengthened, united and steadfast future. Therefore, a broad and long-term plan is needed to document the events of the 7th of October and the Iron Swords War, and to commemorate them in a national framework.”
The budget for the program will be raised from a rebirth director and will be 190 million NIS . In fact, the Director will transfer 160 million NIS to the Ministry of Heritage for deployment between 2024 and 2028 for the purpose of promoting the multi-year plan. Of this amount, 5 million will be allocated for the continuation of the development of the Heritage Space program.
In addition, out of the intended budget, the Prime Minister’s Office will be allocated 5 million in 2024, and 10 million will be allocated to the State Archives between 2024 and 2026. For memory activity in the year, an additional 15 million will be allocated, of which 5 million will be allocated for 2024 and NIS 10 million for 2025.
