Ahsan Daksa: led the forces

Ahsan Daksa, IDF site

On Monday, Colonel Ahsan Daksa, commander of the 401st Brigade, who was killed a few days ago in the 162th Division maneuver in Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip, was laid to rest at the cemetery in Usapia. Daksa actively participated in the fighting, and was always in the leading force of the brigade. According to preliminary investigation, Daksa was hit by an explosive device after he left his tank for observation. He left behind a wife and three children, residents of Daliat-al-Carmel.

Daksa was a member of the Druze minority in Israel, which repeatedly proves the covenant of fate that they have made with the Jewish people since the establishment of the State of Israel, and its full cooperation in the security effort – with no less than 12 Druze soldiers killed since the beginning of the war. Daksa himself was a well-known hero and an example among the Druze and Israeli population as a whole: During the Second Lebanon War in 2006, Daksa participated in the Battle of Ita-a-Shayeb, in which IDF forces became embroiled in fighting in the Shiite village near the Israeli border. Daksa, who was then a company commander, strove to contact and managed to save soldiers who were cut off from their units; for this effort, he won an medal of honor after the war. Since then, Daksa has continued to rise in the ranks, and has become a battalion commander, and later a commander of the Golan brigade. He was appointed to his current position only a few months ago, in the middle of the war.

“Since the hard news of his fall came to me, I am reminded again of our last meeting on the front,” Defense Minister Yoav Galant mourned him, “when I returned to Tel-Aviv, I met the Chief of Staff and some of the IDF generals. I talked to them about the visit and they asked me about Ahsan. I realized that what I saw was not just the reference to his commanders in the field. This is how the Chief of Staff and the commanders of the IDF saw him and everyone who knew him. He was a first-class officer and commander. It is painful and difficult, that he was killed less than 4 months after he fulfilled his dream and was appointed commander of 401 brigade. As in his life, he died when taking initiative and striving for contact with the enemy. The family, the State of Israel, lost Akhsan, who was the leader of his troops. You lost a brother, a husband and a father. There are no words to comfort you.”

“I appreciate his special leadership, full of self-confidence. The natural command ability that grows from among the people from the bottom to the top. He was a professional armored officer, and an example of the fact that the decision in the battle is not dependent on tanks, but on the command advantage,” said Lt.-Gen. Amir Baram, deputy chief of staff. Indeed, there is no doubt that this is a great loss for the IDF and the state, but also an amazing story of action and partnership between peoples.
