Allowed for publication: Four reservists were killed in southern Lebanon
The incident took place as part of an activity by the Reserve Force of the 226th Brigade operating under the 146th Division in a fortified military area in Lebanon, an area in which the IDF has operated several times in the past. Over the past month, the force has been operating in this area, conducting reconnaissance, scans and disclosures of the area, to ensure that it is free of Hezbollah terrorist organization weapons. During the patrol, the force entered an underground tunnel in which they found a shaft in which an armored personnel carrier exploded and led to the deaths of the fighters.
The Home Front Command forces operated for many hours in order to extract the bodies of the soldiers. There were no injuries in the incident. The IDF is investigating the incident, when it is not yet clear whether the explosive was an IDF explosive device or an explosive device that was accidentally detonated there and caused the operational accident.
