Following the IDF’s aval campaign, a wave of powerful attacks in the heart of Beirut was carried out this morning in the Ras a-Na’a neighborhood, where Hezbollah’s information organization, Mohammed Afif, was assassinated.
The Ba’ath party in Lebanon announced that the unusual attack was aimed at the building in which the leadership of Brass a-Naba was based. The party is the party of the Syrian leader, Bashar Assad, who controls Syria. Shortly after, security officials told Reuters that Muhammad Afif had been killed in the attack.
The attacks come after last week the air force increased its frequency of attacks in the Dahiya. The army said on Saturday that it had completed a fourth wave of attacks in one day, concluding 50 attacks on terrorist targets in the neighborhood in one week. The IDF spokesman explained that “all the military targets targeted by Hezbollah were deliberately located in the heart of the civilian population. This is another example of Hezbollah’s cynical use of Lebanese civilians as human shields.”
The IDF Spokesperson made it clear that, as in previous attacks, warnings were issued to the Lebanese population, and that “prior to the attack, many steps were taken to reduce the chance of civilian casualties, including prior intelligence gathering, accurate observations and advance warnings to evacuate the population in the area,” the statement said.
On Saturday, the terrorist organization launched 10 rockets into the Haifa Gulf region, in an event in which, thanks to the strict adherence of the guidelines, many lives were probably saved. In a direct hit in Haifa, a Beit Midrash was seriously damaged, but there were no casualties. The MDA said only five people in the city were lightly injured, from injuries that occurred during the run to the protected area.
In the background, negotiations are being held under American mediation in an attempt to bring about a cease-fire. A Lebanese source said that the government authorities in Beirut were “optimistic” that Hezbollah would agree to the conditions that were set, and that its answer is expected to be received tomorrow (Monday).
However, both the terrorist organization and the IDF continue to fight intensively. The IDF released a video from a visit made by IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi in Kfar Kaila in south Lebanon last week, in which he emphasized the army’s determination to continue to harm Hezbollah: “This organization will continue to fire, we will continue to fight, we will continue to carry out plans, to go further, to attack deeply, To hurt Hezbollah, very, very hard.” He added: “We will stop when we know that we are bringing the residents back with security.”
