A month after the declaration of Operation ‘Prosperity Guardian’, in which 20 Western and Arab countries formed a Coalition to protect ships sailing in the Red Sea and the Bab Al-Mandab Strait from missile and drone attacks by the Houthis, And two weeks after the Americans have begun laying air strikes against the terrorist organization that controls half of Yemen, the USA officially declared an offensive operation against the Houthis: Poseidon Archer.
In the operation, the United States and its allies do not seek to overthrow the Houthis or to damage their grip on Yemen (that would be a difficult task, requiring a full-scale war, ground invasion, and above all, a genuine commitment to the cause), but to harm their offensive capabilities against naval targets. Therefore, the attacks have so far been directed against the weapons warehouses (in which the attack components are allegedly stored), and at the airways and airports (to prevent the launching of drones). According to Western intelligence organizations, at least one-third of Houthi missile stockpiles were destroyed or significantly damaged by the attacks.
The attacks against the Houthis are helping Israel, both in terms of (potentially) releasing the sea route and removing the economic burden, and in attracting international attention from the war in the Gaza Strip. Last night, the United States and Britain launched a massive attack in Yemen, this time without prior warning, hitting 8 targets. The Houthis, on the other hand, continue to declare that they do not intend to stop their actions under any circumstances, and intend to attack any Israeli vessel, as well as any naval vessel associated with the coalition. This approach, along with Iran’s renewed weapons potential after the war, could make the Houthis a long-term problem if Western countries do not succeed in harming them now in a way that will not be forgotten.
