The morning after the election: Trump is on the way to victory

The vote count in the US states began at the end of election day, and is expected to last a while – but it can already be seen that momentum clearly is leaning toward Trump. Trump has received more votes than expected in red (Republican) states, and may win the majority of votes in the entire U.S.; and in purple (swing) states, polls seem to have underestimated Trump’s power—which is now leading almost certainly in all of them.

Among the key states, most media outlets have already announced Trump’s victory in at least 2 – Georgia (which Biden won in 2020), and North Carolina (which voted for Trump in the last two elections). Trump is currently leading comfortably in Michigan and Wisconsin—and if he does win both, he could be declared a final winner in the election; Trump is currently leading the vote in Pennsylvania and Arizona as well, but too closely to declare a trend or a winner. As of now, the New York Times estimates that Trump’s chances of winning the election are more than 95 percent, and that the former president is expected to win more than 300 electoral votes.

If Donald Trump wins the election, it will be the second time in U.S. history (and the first time in more than 100 years) that a president has 2 non-consecutive terms. This is a significant change for the United States, and for the entire world, which is expecting significant changes in U.S. foreign policy, economy and security in the coming months (the president-elect will take office only on January 20 – and until then, President Biden’s term continues). In Israel, too, significant changes can be expected in the American relationship to the war, with the hope that Trump, who has stated his will to end the war, will remove restraints from Israel and allow it to exert more force in order to bring about a victory. In addition, Trump’s victory could be a severe moral blow for the entire Shiite axis.

More than a Republican victory, it is a democratic loss—when the majority of voters decided that they had enough of Biden’s term and were not interested in Harris as a choice; the U.S. may not yet be ready to choose a woman as president—and voters might have realized that under Harris’ beautiful words, there was a substantial void in the content. In any case, it is interesting to see all the pro-Palestinian protesters, who have caused riots and problems for the US democratic party, now receive the punishment they deserve.
