Operation Northern Arrows: Increasing the pressure

Interception above Tel Aviv

Since the announcement on Monday of the IDF’s offensive operation against Hezbollah, the IDF has not taken its foot off the gas: Hundreds of attacks were carried out across Lebanon yesterday and this morning, mainly against houses that stored missiles and rockets for the terrorist organization. In addition, a targeted attack was carried out in Beirut, in which Ibrahim Qabisi, the head of the missile system and a  close friend to Nasrallah, was assassinated. The beatings on Hezbollah are piling up, and it seems that it is possible to say without a doubt that the past week was the worst in its history – with the elimination and injury of thousands of operatives, the killing of many senior officials, most notably Ibrahim Aqil, the destruction of an essential part of his arsenal of weapons, and especially moral damage, the exposure of intelligence infiltration, And a show of great weakness for Hezbollah in the eyes of the Lebanese and the Arab world.

Hezbollah is responding in a relatively limited manner for the time being, with hundreds of launches toward the northern settlements – mainly north of the Jezreel Valley. Around 6:30 This morning, the residents of Tel Aviv, Ramat Gan and the Sharon woke up to sirens– when the IDF intercepted a long-range missile fired from Lebanon. This is the first time in history that a missile was fired from Lebanon at Tel Aviv (when in the Second Lebanon War all of Hezbollah’s long-range missiles were damaged in the opening blow, Operation ‘essential Weight’). Hezbollah claimed that the shooting was aimed at the Mossad base in Gelilot, which was responsible (according to the terrorist organization) for the impressive beeper operation a week ago.

This week, the world leaders are meeting at the UN General Assembly, and Iranian President Pazeshkhian referred to the warming in Lebanon, claiming that “it is impossible not to respond to Israel’s terrorist acts.” In response, Israel conveyed messages to the United States to exert broad pressure on Iran not to intervene in the exchange of blows, thereby greatly increasing the risk of developing a regional war. At the same time, Prime Minister Netanyahu is preparing for a short tour of the Assembly, in which he is expected to speak on Friday, and in the hope of explaining to the world the Israeli strategy and the justice inherent in its actions.
